History The LeVeque Tower, located at 50 West Broad Street, is a
47-story, Art Deco style building. Among Columbus’ most noteworthy
architectural jewels, Leveque Tower stood as the city’s tallest
building from its completion in 1927 well into the 1970’s.
Originally constructed as the Citadel of the American Insurance
Union, the building boasts a distinctive oak bark terra-cotta
exterior decorated with carved mythical and historical art pieces.
Inside, the building evokes a classic era, with details and
decorations unmatched in today’s modern architecture. In 1975 the
tower was added to the National Register of Historic Places. At
Broad and Front Streets, Leveque Tower is located just steps from
the state capital in a premier location “On the Square” – a bustling
area flanked with offices, retail, city and state offices, and
dining options. The building is also uniquely situated with
unobstructed views of the Scioto River and the Columbus skyline.
Designed by renowned architect C. Howard Crane, famous for designing
some of the most lavish theaters and buildings around the country,
Leveque Tower stands at the very heart of downtown Columbus,
defining the city’s skyline. Modern Renovations Towering Heights Facts
